A week or two ago, next door neighbour Phil said he had met a new man called Steve in a local hostelry who was keen to learn about fishing in the area and could I organise a day out.
The best option seemed to be aboard the Cheeky monkey with Dave Gabe out of appledore to get a feel of what Steve may like in the future and for him to try a bit of local sea fishing in the estuary. My brother-in-law Chris, Phil and a new member Steve decided we would have a day out together. The weather promised little but we had booked in advance, and sure enough we got wet on boarding the boat, but when we reached the mark in the estuary, the rain stopped. I had half a dozen bass, but honours go to an Australian lad also on the boat who had a couple of smoothhounds, and to Steve for this one.
It was a fun day catching a few fish in good cheery company, and at only £15 ea with tackle and bait supplied, great value. Hopefully a sign of things to come fishing together in the future.
