Roger, one of our coleagues in the bookshop had told us of a trip that he had made recently around the Taw/Torridge estuary on a duck which was based on the sands at Instow, just across the River Toridge from the fishing village of Appledore.
It was too tempting to miss on a nice day so we took in the sunshine and decided to go for a tour.
It isn't the most luxurious of vehicles but was very practical for such shallow estuaries, and we did touch down briefly on a sand bar. However, as it can cross land on tyres, and also move as a boat, it didn't cause too much of a headache to get off it. It also was a great platform to see the villages of Instow and Appledore.
It was a really enjoyable trip, but wouldn't suggest that you buy one for the morning trip to work.
