This was a day of embarrassment. As Jenny, our daughter and Sandy were walking around the shops in Looe, Mike - Jenny's boyfriend - and I sneaked off for a bit of mackerel fishing just to escape.
We went out a fair way and after fishing a blank mark, we moved to a new area where Mike kept catching mackerel and I just couldn't. We used the same coloured feathers, same depth but after a while, I realised that he was dropping his bait much slower than I was as the drag on the multiplier was set very tight. I did the same and caught a solitary fish before the tide stopped running and that was the end of the sport for the day.
Never thought I would struggle with mackerel, I even contemplated not entering this as a diary entry!!!
