Vintage tackle has fascinated me for more than a decade, especially
cane rods and vintage reels. However, items that I used to consider as
relatively modern are now entering the collectible fishing tackle market.
Ambassadeur reels now fall very much into that category. This new book,
"Small Ambassadeurs, The Legendary Light-line Reels" co-authored by
Espen Sjaastad & Karl-Eric Svensson, beautifully produced and published by
Schiffer Publishing in 2015, details the smaller 1500c and 2500c Ambassadeur
multiplying fishing reels.
The authors are obviously enthusiasts and have gone to extraordinary lengths
to chart the development of the reels, and every modification, each point
being illustrated with an excellent colour photograph
and chronological charts plotting the enhancements. It even shows the
chronological history of the boxes in which the reels were packaged.
This book is a 'must-have' reference work for tackle collectors and
historians, and no doubt this latest information will effect the prices achieved for
the scarcer models detailed in the book. If you don't want to sell
your items too cheaply through lack of knowledge, or simply want to start a
collection ahead of the game, then this book is an indispensable source of
information for both buyers and sellers, and as with John Drewett's
book "Hardy Brothers", "Small Ambassadeurs" is set to
become a classic in its field.
