As I was over fishing the Test, Lee and I decided to drop in on our friend Gary
and fish the Kennet with Ed Whitby who manages the Angling Heritage Facebook
page and Chris Yates. It was a tough day's fishing
as the water level was low.
I had saved a stretch I normally caught perch in for
Chris as he hadn’t had a good river perch for a while.
So Ed and I started at the Hatch pool and Ed was into a
fish first which proved to be a trout which happened repeatedly
throughout the day. Lee fished the lake
for pike.
Chris turned up a
little later and decided not to fish the carrier as he could see a jack but no
perch. We moved from place to place catching trout on worm and spam but no
coarse fish until Lee tried the carrier that I had left for Chris and caught
three perch in four casts. We then all moved up there for the last hour and we
all caught perch, the best fell to Chris of 2lb 4oz which was in pristine
condition.
Lee moved back to
the lake catching a jack. It proved a great end to a difficult days fishing,
but it is really enjoyable spending a day with great company and catching a few
fish. We even had Cetti Warbler serenading us as we stopped for a midday cuppa;
to me, this is what fishing is all about.
