RIVER READS’ NEWSLETTER MAY 2014
Thank goodness; the ‘May Madness’ which beset us
recently is at an end. It was a good
‘Madness’ because I’d packed in so many things for the month; each was hugely
enjoyable and a ‘not to be missed’ occasion.
Our second major event was the Yates’ signing of the
trade edition of ‘The Lost Diary’ on the 17th May. Chris arrived on the 16th so that
he was in good time for the signing so I bought tickets to watch the Megan Boyd
film by Eric Steel, ‘Kiss the Water’ which was being screened at our local
Arts’ Centre, ‘The Plough’. I don’t
think Chris believed me when I said that this had been co-ordinated with his
signing but it was. We watched the film
which was highly enjoyable and I’ve since been in touch with the distributors
as I’d wanted to watch it again. I
understand the DVD is for sale on a well-used website!

This time, at Chris’s request, I didn’t follow the
signing by a talk – we’ve discussed it and future signings will follow the
format of … Talk first, then signing; he finds it more enjoyable that way. That said, Chris said that this latest River
Reads’ event had been the most enjoyable to date. It started at 12 noon (and he was ahead his
schedule) and ended at 4.00 p.m.
Afterwards, he told me that he’d met some lovely people and enjoyed the
time spent talking to each, especially seeing his old friend ‘Ferret’
again. Signed copies of ‘The Lost Diary’
are now available from River Reads and a signed advertising poster will soon be
offered for sale on eBay, the proceeds being donated to Angling Heritage. We
also managed to get several other titles of Chris’s book signed too including
the latest “Falling in Again” which for some strange reason has the photograph
on the cover printed in reverse. We also have 3 copies of the “Passion for
Angling” DVD which Hugh Miles sent for selling on the day; the “Caught in Time”
DVD about Chris sold out on the day.
We had a great time; I’d like to thank Reg Talbot for
his help and local artist, David Blackaller for donating a one-off print of his
pencil drawing of Chris, which Chris signed on the day, and a one-off print of
a pencil drawing of Rod Hutchinson.
These will now be offered for auction to raise funds for Angling
Heritage and on that note …
As you will know, when we have a signing we ask a
nominal donation of £2 per signature to raise money for Angling Heritage, and
for one other charity. This year, we
chose The Angler’s Trust and they will receive a donation of half the money
raised from the signing.
