Out With Zak - August 2009

Perhaps the most unusual butterfly that people will not immediately recognise is the silver washed fritillary pictured at rest and taking to the air.
Then there is the speckled wood, currently this is the most common butterfly in our area.
The one that looks spectacular and everybody will recognise is the peacock.
Another butterfly where numbers have been very high this year, the highest in my living memory is the painted lady
A butterfly which was common in late July, but has now largely disappeared is the gatekeeper.
One other photograph that I took to test the lens is this youngster who sat watching me in the distance until a car scared it away.
