First Time on the River Taw - 02/07/18

I was invited to fish a stretch of the River Taw owned Bvby fishing buddy and friend Graham who hadn't appreciated that I hadn't fished the River despite moving down to Devon over 25 years ago.

We arrived near dusk to see low water conditions, but the Taw seems to cope better with low rainfall and we saw fish rising as soon as we neared the water. These were very small fish bit it still gave me the confidence to dry fly fish which I much prefer to wet fly. I find it more fun aiming at an individual fish rather than covering water, although I think upstream nymph fishing is probably the most skilled of the methods.

We worked along the river leapfrogging one another and both ended up with a fish apiece. Although it was only small, I was absolutely delighted with my first Taw fish
