Escape to the Exe - 01/09/14

I managed to get a day on the Exe . The weather was very changeable and the fishing changed with the weather. When it became overcast and windy with a light drizzle the sport dropped off and didn't pick up until the sun came out late in the afternoon. I started the day using flake on a size 12 hook but after a few knocks, nothing developed, so switched to maggot with no joy, but worms proved to be the key catching all the fish on this bait despite swapping occasionally through the day. I have sine been told that nobody has been on that stretch all summer so I guess it was no surprise that natural baits worked best.

I managed a bag of a dozen or so perch to 1lb, a few roach and a chub, but the bream I had hoped to catch weren't there except for this one of just over 6lb.

Thanks for Simon for letting me fish the syndicate water, you wouldn't believe this was in the middle of Exeter with houses and industrial estates all around
